This week was a weird week with the election and the weather going from somewhere in the 70s to somewhere in the 30s, but I managed to keep my word count for NaNoWriMo mostly on par. So all things have positives.
Social media was a big topic of conversation among “me, myself, and I”… and of course the Lord got involved because it was spinning out of control quite a bit.
Would you believe that I asked Him how I’m supposed to get my message out without social media? What a maroon, as Bugs Bunny used to say.
His answer: “Well… you could write a book.”
So… needless to say, I will be writing more books or stories or all of the above in the coming weeks/months/years. The story I’m writing for NaNo (short for NaNoWriMo) has been a story I’ve had for literally 20 years… so it’s toward the top of the list of stories that will be told sooner rather than later.
Honestly I’m glad that 20 yeas ago I was only 12 and not 32… cuz now I can stop pretending that I’m supposed to do something else with my life and just get on with writing.
Obviously we can play the “what if” and “should have” cards, but I’m choosing to look at it on the more positive side. This story never really died and every October I would think “I should write that for NaNo,” but somehow it never seemed right.
A few years ago, I did write it and it was alright but lacking a lot of depth and then there was a left turn when there should have been a right turn and I hated it so much that instead of trying again or fixing it, I just left it and pretended that I hated the story. Which is further from the truth than you could possibly know. The characters in this story are like my best friends: constant and never far from my mind.
I think I’ve even learned life lessons from characters I created!
As people made in the image of God (Imago Dei), it always amazes me how we— like God— can make “worlds” out of nothing but words. Whether it’s our own world that we live in or if it’s a world we create in the form of stories. And sometimes it’s probably the world in our head that we live in where things seem much more dark or dire than they actually are.
Anyway, that’s just another weekly update. Can you believe I started this blog at the end of August and it’s now the middle of November? I’m not sure I’ve ever kept up on a blog quite like this before. It’s nice to be an actual adult for once.
