The Happiest Day

Me holding my oldest nephew, Dec 2015

Bloganuary Writing Prompt:
Describe the happiest day of your life.

All day I’ve been thinking about this and I’ve come up with very little.

Because of the way my brain works, I don’t have a whole day that I would remember as being happy, but I have moments and sometimes longer than moments (like, hours) that I may remember.

I remember when my oldest nephew was born and how we all went to the hospital (he was the first grandchild on both sides of the family) and how we all took turns holding him, but I got to hold him the longest.

Me with my second oldest nephew, July 2017

I remember the day I went to meet my second oldest nephew and how I held him for two hours so that my sister-in-law could nap.

My youngest nephew, September 2019

I remember how chaotic it was when my mom and I took my two oldest nephews to meet their little brother because they were almost 4 and just over 2 and how much they were jumping all over the hospital furniture and wanted me to take pictures and videos of them being silly and they didn’t really want to meet their brother because well… he was little and didn’t do much.

My niece shortly after she was born, circa December 2020

I remember when my brother and sister-in-law came home from the hospital a few days after my niece was born and showed her off to the boys and the youngest one got an angry look on his face and refused to even acknowledge that he had a sister… of course he was just over 1 year old, so it only makes sense. He didn’t understand what was going on.

So… my happiest memories come from new lives being brought into my life that have only enhanced my living… if that makes sense.

I don’t have a whole day of happy, but I take moments that make me feel the happiest and I capitalize on those moments.

That’s what makes living so grand.
