Bloganuary Writing Prompt:
What irritates you about the home you live in?
In an alternate timeline, Erica is writing a laundry list of all the things she finds irritating on any given day.
Fun Fact: if you’re not irritated by something/someone in your home, you’re probably not even living. And you’re definitely not doing any growing.
So sure, I could give you a list of all the things that irritate me about the home I live in, but I think the best thing to say would be…
I’m not there enough.
Have you ever been on a trip away from home and then you come back and it’s like your entire being breathes a sigh of relief when you walk in the door of your home? Or whatever is the most home to you if it’s not the place you live.
I feel that every time I come back from watching animals. Sometimes that’s why I don’t go home during the sitting times, not even to pick something up.
I have gotten “stuck” on the couch because I didn’t want to leave my house again.
My roommate likes to joke, “Did the couch eat you again?”
Yes. Yes it did.
The other irritating thing about home is having to reintegrate my schedule with my roommate’s.
When we’re both home for long periods of time (which hasn’t been for quite some time), we learn schedules and when is the best time to be where in the house.
(For example, if it’s before work, I try to stay out of her way because she has a specific amount of time before she has to leave so I’ll stay mostly in my room or in my bathroom. I, on the other hand, have an extremely flexible schedule so it’s not a huge deal if she’s ever home when I have to leave. But I have to be respectful of “her” time and try to do my best to honor that.)
Although there is one really good positive out of all this…
There’s only one other roommate.
As in, it’s just me and her. We used to have “a third roommate.” We had three of them, in fact.
After the last one moved out, we breathed that same sigh of relief that one breathes when they’re home.
Nothing against any of the roommates; they were all great and we love all of them and all three of them brought a different dynamic to the house that we enjoyed learning to live with. It was just nice to have a break.
And now we’re so used to just the two of us, we’re most likely not going to be adding another “third” anytime soon.
Besides, we use the “third bedroom” as a catch-all craft room now. 😛
