Bloganuary Writing Prompt:
What is a song or poem that speaks to you and why?
As someone who loves music and has a lot of songs that could fit this criteria, either currently or in the past, this question will be difficult with less than 20 minutes left to post.
I have literally had all day to think of this question. Woke up at 7:50am and thought about it throughout my entire 12-hour workday.
The only answer I can come up with?
Agnus Dei by Michael W. Smith.
I don’t know how many people know I love that song, which surprises me until I realize it’s not as overdone in churches as it used to be and I never remember how much I love it until I hear the first few notes.
There is one other worship song that I love almost as much, but if I can’t remember the name… it’s not nearly as impactful to me.
Now, as to the why of the question…
Mainly, it’s for the simplicity of the song. It’s simple, it’s succinct, it tells God Who He is to the singer(s), the melody is easy… I don’t know. But I’ve always loved it and when it stopped being “mainstream”, it was too soon.
Really, that song should never have gone out of style… but it’s more about the heart of the worshiper… and there are some good songs that have come out since…
But Agnus Dei is and has been, the song that speaks to me the most.
