I had every intention of yesterday being a perfectly normal Tuesday.
And then the tickle in my throat wouldn’t go away and I got more tired than usual for the afternoon client.
So I cancelled all evening plans (coffee with a couple of friends and a night of writing and cheering on my other writing friends) and was in bed by 9:15pm. Thankfully the dogs were pretty chill about it, but I could tell when I woke up that they were ready to be done with sleeping.
Today, I feel less tired, but my throat still hurts and parts of my body hurt that don’t normally hurt unless it’s being threatened with something.
I’ve been taking homeopathic things to help with the symptoms and such and they’ve been working, but realistically I’m just ready to not be sick anymore.
Fun fact: I have a tendency to get sick very shortly after getting sick. I won’t be sick for a long time, and then it’s a quick one-two (and I’ve had it become a three-four once or twice) and then I’m good for a few years.
Of course the biggest thing for me is remembering to listen to my body and being willing to rest when it asks, sleep when it demands, and stay up on my vitamin intake in between.
I “preach” a lot about people listening to their bodies, but sometimes it’s just a bit hard to remember to practice what I preach.
And if I’m completely honest with myself… the biggest problem I have about not practicing what I preach is that I compare my productivity levels to others’ and try to emulate what they do, when I know all along that’s not how my body and my productivity levels work.
So… this is just a reminder to everyone to know where your limits are and when your body hits them… do whatever it is that will help your body rest the most.
If you want to stay productive, you’ve got to stay healthy.
