This year I went to the 24th annual PlanetComicon in Kansas City, Missouri. This was my third year in a row going, but my fourth time overall.
The difference with this year and previous years is that, although I had my own 3-day pass as a regular patron, I helped my friend Rachel Newhouse with her book booth since this was basically her first “real” time at PlanetComicon and for sure her first time as an artist/vendor.
I had a lot of things I wanted to do this weekend, but the only three things I really got accomplished were going to see William Shatner at his panel, seeing my friends Rachel and Stephanie on a panel and spending lots of money on other creators by buying their stuff.
(Because that’s how I convince myself it’s okay that I spent so much in a 3-day period of time)
The biggest thing any comic convention is, is a really large multi-day market where people sell things other people don’t really need but would a hundred percent love to have.
Oh, I also got a henna tattoo. It was my first time getting anything more than a stick-on tattoo and I honestly really like it. I may have already mentioned this, but I definitely plan on getting at least one tattoo one day… don’t tell anyone this kind of makes me want two…
Not being the actual artist, I am SO tired. So I can only imagine how Rachel is feeling right now… but it was a fairly lucrative weekend and she got her name out there to people who never would have otherwise known she exists.
I’m excited to see where this takes her and what other doors the Lord will facilitate opening and shutting for her because of all this.
Really that’s all I wanted to say this week. This weekend was fun, I have one more week of “official” dog-sitting and then I’ll get back into writing more consistently.
The same Rachel that just spent the last weekend selling all those books won’t let me get away with waiting much past April 1 to start really writing again…
