You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello

Last week, my bestest friend Esther and I went on a road trip with her brother to move her back to her childhood home for a little while.

The Lord called her back there and while I’m excited for her new adventures, I’m sad she is so far away.

When I went back to work this week (briefly because I’m now on another road trip already), I kept thinking about how weird it is that life just moves on with or without your favorite people around.

I’m trying not to let it get me down, but some moments are harder than others.

This weekend, I’m going to South Bend, Indiana, with my other bestie, Rachel and her husband. Normally this is a trip the four of us take together but because of the way Esther’s life worked out, coming back for a weekend road trip would have been a bit premature.

That doesn’t make it any less sad that the seat next to me is empty.

However, the road trip to her house was a ton of fun. We made a detour to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, we stopped at the cutest little local diner ever, we made a stop at the Wheat Montana bakery, and we had some of the best “off-brand” Starbucks coffee ever!

(I might have a post later on about all of the fun things Hot Cheeto saw as well, but there’s at least one picture here for your pleasure. 🙂 )

I was surprised to learn that the Rocky Mountains are in fact… rocky, the Blue Mountains do in fact look… blue, and the air at 4,000 feet above sea level isn’t nearly as hard to breathe as the air at 8,000 feet. I still don’t think the Black Hills look black though… definitely just a darker shade of blue…

It was fun to make memories with Esther and her brother, and I look forward to visiting her and her family again very soon!

But for the moment, I know it’s ok to be sad that she’s not here physically with me.

I rode horses with Esther and two of her siblings while I visited her and her family.

  1. I feel this one, my bestie is moving to Israel in January. Excited she gets to explore something new that she is stoked about, but man will I miss her. First really close female friend I’ve had as an adult.
