Happy New Year!
And also, Merry Christmas…
And also… Happy MLK Day…
And also…
Yeah… sorry about that. Definitely meant to blog a whole lot more over the last month.
See, what had happened was… I didn’t actually get less busy like what usually happens in the month of January. But I do have a good reason for that!
I’m quitting my day job.
For the uninitiated, my day job is cleaning houses.
“Wow, what are you going to do now, Erica?”
Well… not much. The Lord reminded me I have side hustles that can help me make the amount of money I need and won’t take up all the hours of my days and as of right now… that’s all I know.
The side hustles will become the main hustle.
This all doesn’t go into effect until April 1, but I have had one person “fire” me early and two other people said they already have a replacement but like me enough that they’re willing to keep me until my last cleaning. Which is very kind of them.
I’d be lying if I said this month hasn’t already been a struggle though. There was a whole week my mom and I didn’t get to houses until 11am or later because we felt like we were just done. It’s gotten only slightly better, but having nearly one month down already certainly helps.
My mom asked me last week if I would miss any of my clients and as much as I like all of the people and the relationships I’ve built… the reason I was there helped keep a lot of them from becoming more than just “clients.”
As for those select few I was and will continue to be friends with… I see them at church all the time so there won’t be any great loss. 🙂
The Lord gave me every single client I had strictly from word of mouth. I know He will provide something or someone for all of them, even if that something is a whole new chapter in their lives they didn’t see coming.
I think the hardest part of this whole process was writing the letter saying I was quitting and none of the subsequent conversations I’ve had with any of the people. Sometimes I’m far harder on myself about the words I write than the words I say… for whatever that might mean.
In the meantime, I’ll keep doing the cleaning job until March 31, writing when I can, and making myself as open to whatever the Lord wants as I can.
